Pattern Details
Skill Level
The skill level is easy and beginner-friendly.
Size
The pattern creates a blanket that is approximately 35” wide and 55” high. Please refer to the “How to Adjust the Size” section for how to customize the size.

Materials
Yarn: Any size 4 (medium) yarn. I used Impeccable yarn by Loops & Threads. This yarn is size 4 (medium) and 100% acrylic.
A skein is 285 yds / 260 m and 4.5 oz / 127.5 g. I used 2 skeins of each color.
Amount of yarn required and colors I used:
- Color A: “Claret” (red) – 420 yds
- Color B: “Pumpkin” (orange) – 410 yds
- Color C: “Gold” (yellow) – 410 yds
- Color D: “Walnut” (brown) – 410 yds
- Color E: “Forest” (green) – 410 yds
You are welcome to use more or less colors. Each color section (a repeat of Rows 1 – 12) requires approximately 205 yds of yarn.
Crochet Hook Size: K/10.5 (6.50 mm).
Other Materials: Yarn needle, scissors and a measuring tape. Optional: stitch markers.

Terminology
This pattern is written for right-handed crochet using standard US terminology. If you’re more familiar with UK terms, here’s my US to UK Conversion Chart.
Abbreviations
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- dc = double crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- RS = right side
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- WS = wrong side
Gauge
Exact sizing is not important. For reference, 4” x 4” = 12 sts (counting all sts) and 14 rows following the pattern. To make a swatch, ch 19 and follow the pattern until your swatch measures 5” high.

How to Adjust the Size
The pattern creates a blanket that is approximately 35” wide and 55” high.
The number of starting chains determines the height of the blanket and the number of rows determines the width. To adjust the height, make more or less starting chains in multiples of 2 + 1 (meaning that you will need an odd number of starting chains). To adjust the width, repeat Rows 1 – 12 more or less times. Each color section (a repeat of Rows 1 – 12), is approximately 3.5” high.

As a guideline: 170 sts = 55“ wide, which means there are approximately 3.1 stitches in an inch. You can take the width you want your blanket to be (in inches) and multiply it by 3.1. For example, if you want your blanket to be approximately 100” wide, 100 x 3.1 = 310. Round up to the nearest odd number. In this example, you would round up to 311. So, you would need 311 starting chains to make the blanket approximately 100” wide. (This is a rough estimate but should give you a width that is close to what you want it to be).
Pattern Notes
- The blanket is completely reversible and looks the same on the front and back.
- Chains never count as stitches.
- Always work into the first stitch (the stitch attached to the chain).
- Always leave an 8” tail whenever you add yarn or fasten off. Later, when you add the tassels, you can incorporate these tails into the tassels instead of weaving them in.
- You may find it helpful to place a stitch marker in the first stitch made in every row.
- Whenever you make a slip stitch, always make it very loosely as you will work into it on the following row.
- It may take several rows for the width of your blanket (which is actually the finished blanket’s height) to be the size that it will be for the remainder of the pattern. I recommend only measuring your work after you finish the first color section (after Row 12). If after the first color section you are not happy with the size, start again with a different number of starting chains (refer to: “How to Adjust the Size”).
- Your blanket may curl, bunch or bulge as you work on it. Blocking the finished blanket will help even it out.

Blocking (Optional)
Blocking can help shape your blanket and correct any bulging. To block your finished blanket, soak it briefly in water, pin it on blocking boards and leave it to dry. Alternatively, pin it on blocking boards, spray it with water and leave it to dry.

Adding Tassels
Preparing Your Yarn
Each color section has 14 tassels in total (7 tassels on the bottom and 7 tassels on the top). Each tassel is made with 2 strands of yarn. Each strand of yarn is 16” long. For each color section, you will need 28 strands that are 16” long.
You can make the tassels shorter or longer by cutting smaller or bigger strands.
Tip for cutting the strands: find an object that is 8” wide (a piece of cardboard, a notebook, etc). Wrap your yarn around the 8” object 28 times (each wrap = 1 strand). Cut the yarn in half.

How to Attach the Tassels
The RS/front of the blanket should be facing up.
A) Insert your hook from the back of the blanket to the front. Take the strands of yarn, fold them in half and place them on your hook.
B) With your hook, pull the folded ends through the blanket (which creates a loop).
C) Pull the ends through the loop. (If you are incorporating your loose ends into the tassels and if there is a tail/end nearby, pull it through the loop).
D) Pull tight to make a knot.

Repeat steps A) – D) for each tassel. Attach 7 tassels evenly spaced across each color section.
Once all tassels are attached, trim the strands to make them all one length. I cut mine to be 5” long.

Learn how to add tassels and trim the strands perfectly with this Guide & Video Tutorial on How to Attach & Trim Tassels.
Optional: To prevent fraying ends, tie a small knot at the end of each strand.

And now you have a new blanket!
