Pattern Details
Skill Level
The skill level is easy to intermediate.
Size
The pattern creates a wall hanging that fits on a 12” long dowel. The finished size is approximately 10” wide and 15.5” high (height is measured from below the dowel to the lowest point, not including the tassels or the hanging strap).

Materials
Yarn: Any size 4 (medium) yarn. For each wall hanging, you will need approximately 200 yds in total.
I used Impeccable yarn by Loops & Threads. This yarn is size 4 (medium) and 100% acrylic. A skein is 285 yds / 260 m and 4.5 oz / 127.5 g. I made one wall hanging with one skein of “Forest” (dark green) and another with one skein of “Fern” (light green).
Crochet Hook Sizes: J/10 (6.00 mm) and H/8 (5.00 mm).
Other Materials: A 12” long circular dowel, a yarn needle, scissors and a measuring tape. Optional: sand paper.

Terminology
This pattern is written for right-handed crochet using standard US terminology. If you’re more familiar with UK terms, here’s my US to UK Conversion Chart.
Abbreviations
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- Puff = Puff Stitch (see “Special Stitch”)
- RS = right side
- sc = single crochet
- sc2tog = single crochet two together
- sc3tog = single crochet three together
- sl st = slip stitch
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- WS = wrong side
- YO = yarn over
Gauge
After Row 2, your work should measure 10” wide.
Pattern Notes
- Chains never count as stitches.
- Always work in the first stitch (the stitch attached to the chain).
- Once your starting chains are attached to the dowel, you simply ignore the dowel and crochet as normal. The first few rows may feel a little awkward as the dowel is close to your hands, but it becomes much easier as your work grows.

Special Stitch
Puff = A Puff stitch in this pattern is a half double crochet three together (hdc3tog) in the same stitch.
Here’s how to make a Puff: Yarn over (YO). Insert your hook into the designated stitch. YO and pull through a loop (3 loops on your hook). YO and insert your hook into the same stitch. YO and pull through a loop (5 loops on your hook). YO and insert your hook into the same stitch. YO and pull through a loop (7 loops on hook). YO and pull the yarn through all 7 loops.
This completed Puff counts as 1 st.
Stitch Explanations
Starting at Row 45, you will make sc2tog sts and in the final row, you will make a sc3tog (these are sometimes called decreases). In case these stitches are new to you:
Single Crochet Two Together (sc2tog)
Insert your hook into the next st. YO and pull up a loop (2 loops on your hook). Insert your hook into the next st. YO and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook). YO and pull the yarn through all 3 loops.
This completed sc2tog counts as 1 st.
Single Crochet Three Together (sc3tog)
Insert your hook into the next st. YO and pull up a loop (2 loops on your hook). Insert your hook into the next st. YO and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook). Insert your hook into the next st. YO and pull up a loop (4 loops on your hook). YO and pull the yarn through all 4 loops.
This completed sc3tog counts as 1 st.

Boho Wall Hanging Pattern
Written Instructions
If your dowel is rough, use sandpaper to smooth it down. Your starting chs should be able to slide around on the dowel without getting caught on it.
Start: With a J/10 (6.00 mm) hook, make 35 chs loosely onto the dowel. (Don’t make them too tight as you will be working into them on the next row). Here’s how:
A) Make a slip knot and place it on your hook.
B) Hold the dowel vertically between your hook and skein so that it is in front of your working yarn.
C) Keeping your hook in front of the dowel, move it toward the yarn and yarn over.
D) Pull the yarn through the loop on your hook.
E) Your first starting chain is now made.
F) *Bring your working yarn to the back of the dowel.
G) Keeping your hook in front of the dowel, move it toward the yarn and yarn over.
H) Pull the yarn through the loop on your hook.
I) Your next starting chain is now made.*
J) Repeat from * to * until you have 35 starting chains.
Slide your chs down the dowel as they are made. Once 35 chs are made, center them on the dowel.

Change to an H/8 (5.00 mm) hook and use it for the rest of the pattern.

Pattern Chart

Hanging Strap
Use an H/8 (5.00 mm) hook.
The instructions below make a strap that is 14” long. To adjust the length, make more or less starting chs (any number – there’s no multiple required).
Start: Ch 61.
Row 1: In the second ch from the hook, sl st.
Sl st in each ch across.
(60 sl sts)
Fasten off and weave in all loose ends.
Place one end of the dowel into the first st and the other end into the last st (these sts are tight – you can put your hook or a yarn needle in first to stretch them).

Tassels/Fringe
Preparing Your Yarn
You will attach 17 tassels along the bottom of the wall hanging. Each tassel is made with 2 strands of yarn. Each strand of yarn is 16” long. You will need 34 strands that are 16” long.
You can make the tassels shorter or longer by cutting smaller or bigger strands.
Tip for cutting the strands: find an object that is 8” wide (a piece of cardboard, a notebook, etc). Wrap your yarn around the 8” object 34 times (each wrap = 1 strand). Cut the yarn in half.
Where & How to Attach Tassels
The RS/front of the wall hanging should be facing up. Attach your tassels to both ends of each RS row between Rows 45 – 61 (see the Pattern Chart for the exact placement).
A) Insert your hook (into a st at the end of a RS row) from the back to the front. Take the strands of yarn, fold them in half and place them on your hook.
B) With your hook, pull the folded ends through the st (which creates a loop).
C) Pull the ends through the loop.
D) Pull tight to make a knot.
Repeat steps A) – D) for each tassel.

Once all tassels are attached, trim the strands to make them all one length – you can use scissors or a rotary cutter. Tassels are 5″ long on the “Fern” wall hanging and 4″ long on the “Forest” version.

Optional: To prevent fraying ends, tie a small knot at the end of each strand.

And now you have a new wall hanging!
