Star Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern

Star Blanket Crochet Pattern

Looking for a unique crochet baby blanket pattern? This Star Blanket crochet pattern is a very easy pattern and creates a lovely textured, “not your normal rectangle,” star-shape blanket. Since you can use any color(s), it’s a perfect gender-neutral baby shower gift or to make for a baby boy or baby girl.

I’ve used 6 colors, as seen in the photos, but you can use any number of colors. I’ve seen great results with alternating between 2 colors, 3 colors or even just one color – either a solid color or ombre (both look beautiful). The color choices and combinations are endless.

Here’s a pic of the blanket using one color, made my one of my fabulous testers, Ilene Bieleski:

Star Blanket

The pattern creates a star blanket this is a “blankie size,” which is great for a stroller, car seat or basinet but because the pattern repeats itself, you can continue the repeats until your desired size.

While I love crochet blanket borders, it’s sometimes nice not to have to make one, like in this pattern! When you finish the last round, you’re finished the blanket!

Crochet Star Blanket Pattern Details

Skill Level

Easy

Size

The pattern creates a blanket that is 2 ft long and high (measured tip to tip)

Gauge

4” x 4” = 13 sts and 12 rows following the pattern as a flat swatch, not in the round.

Materials

Yarn: Approx 450 yds in total. Note that if you are making your blanket bigger, you will require more yarn.

I used Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn, Solid. This yarn is medium (4) weight and 100% acrylic. The size is 4.5 oz / 127.5 g. A skein is 285 yds / 260 m.

Colors I used and amount of yarn used of each: Red (“Cherry”): 50 yds, Orange, (“Orange Crush”): 60 yds, Yellow (“Sunny Day”): 70 yds, Green (“Forest”): 80 yds, Blue (“Blue Moon”): 90 yds, Purple (“Lavender”): 100 yds

Crochet Hook Size: H/8 (5.00mm).

Other Materials: scissors, yarn needle.

Terminology

The pattern is written in English for right-handed crochet using US terminology. If you are more familiar with UK terminology, check out my US to UK Conversion Chart.

  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet

How to Adjust the Size

Repeat Rounds 13 – 15 until your desired height. For the size I made (a blanket that is 2 ft feet wide), I made a total of 21 rounds.

Pattern Notes

  • The pattern is worked in the round. Do not turn after any round.
  • Chains never count as stitches.
  • Always work into the 1st st unless instructed to skip it.
  • Always join by working into the top of the 1st st made in the round, not the chain.
  • If the instructions say “Sc, dc, sc” what this means is: sc in the next st, dc in the next st, sc in the next st.
  • When instructions say to “change colors,” place the new color on your hook and pull it through the loop of your current color. You will then use that new color and ch 1. Fasten off old color.
