The pattern includes instructions for 6 sizes:
- Baby (under 1 year)
- Toddler (1 – 3 years)
- Child (4 – 7 years)
- Youth (8 – 13 years)
- Women (14+ years)
- Men (14+ years).
Materials
Yarn: You can use any size 4 (medium) and 100% acrylic yarn.
Below are the total amounts of yarn required for each size (for two mittens) along with the colors I used:
- Baby: 60 yds – all the colors listed below
- Toddler: 80 yds – “Soft Taupe”
- Child: 105 yds – “Pale Grey & True Grey”
- Youth: 130 yds – “Green Lagoon”
- Women: 160 yds – “Plum”
- Men: 180 yds – “Misty Blue”

I used Impeccable yarn by Loops & Threads in the colors listed above. This yarn is size 4 (medium) and 100% acrylic. A skein is 285 yds / 260 m and 4.5 oz / 127.5 g.
Crochet Hook Sizes: H/8 (5.00 mm) for everything but the cuff and F/5 (3.75 mm) for the cuff.
Other Materials: Stitch markers, a yarn needle, scissors and a measuring tape.
Terminology
This pattern is written for right-handed crochet using standard US terminology. If you’re more familiar with UK terms, here’s my US to UK Conversion Chart.
Abbreviations
- BPdc = back post double crochet
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- dc = double crochet
- FPdc = front post double crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- sk = skip
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
Gauge
Measurements are provided throughout the pattern. If at any point your work is measuring differently, start again with a different hook size.
Pattern Notes
- There is no right or left mitten. The mitten can be worn on either hand.
- Chains never count as stitches.
- Never turn at the start or end of any round.
- The joining slip stitch never gets counted as a stitch. Except when specifically instructed, it never gets worked into.
- The first stitch of a round is the same stitch that you slip stitch into to join the previous round. It is the stitch attached to the chain(s).
- You may find it helpful to place a stitch marker in the first stitch made in each round.

Stitch Explanations
For the Mitten Cuff you will be making front and back post stitches. If these stitches are new to you, here’s how to make them:
Front Post Double Crochet (FPdc):
Yarn over, insert your hook from the front to the back at the right of the designated stitch and bring your hook out at the left of the same stitch. Then finish your double crochet stitch as you normally would: yarn over and pull through a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook (2 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull the yarn through the last two loops on your hook.
Back Post Double Crochet (BPdc):
Yarn over, insert your hook from the back to the front at the right of the designated stitch and bring your hook out at the left of the same stitch. Then finish your double crochet stitch as you normally would: yarn over and pull through a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook (2 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull the yarn through the last two loops on your hook.
