Pattern Details
Skill Level
Easy
Size
The pattern creates a bookmark that is approx. 12” long. The flower is 2.5” x 2.5”.
Materials
Yarn: Any size 3 (light) or size 4 (medium) yarn. For each bookmark, you will need approx.:
- Color A (flower center) = 3 yds.
- Color B (flower petals) = 9 yds.
- Color C (stem) = 6 yds.

For my daisy bookmarks, I used Snuggly Wuggly by Loops & Threads in the colors: A) “Yellow,” B) “White” and C) “Light Green.” This yarn is size 3 (light) and 100% acrylic. A skein is 446 yds / 408 m and 5 oz / 141 g.

For my sunflower bookmarks, I used Impeccable by Loops & Threads in the colors: A) “Walnut,” B) “Sunny Day,” and C) “Fern.” This yarn is size 4 (medium) and 100% acrylic. A skein is 285 yds / 260 m and 4.5 oz / 127.5 g.
Crochet Hook Size:
- If using size 3 (light) yarn: G/7 (4.50 mm).
- If using size 4 (medium) yarn: F/5 (3.75 mm).
Other Materials: Yarn needle, scissors and a measuring tape. Optional: a stitch marker.
Terminology
This pattern is written for right-handed crochet using standard US terminology. If you’re more familiar with UK terms, here’s my US to UK Conversion Chart.
Abbreviations
- approx. = approximately
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- dc = double crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- tr = triple/treble crochet

Gauge
Exact sizing is not important. For reference, after Round 1, work should measure 1” across.
Pattern Notes
- All of the instructions are the same whether you are using size 3 (light) or size 4 (medium) yarn.
- Chains never count as stitches.
- The slip stitch that joins the round does not get worked into or counted as a stitch.
- Fasten off always means to cut the yarn that’s attached to your skein, pull the end through the loop that was on your hook and pull tight.
- You may find it helpful to place a stitch marker in the top of the first stitch made in the round/row.

Pattern Instructions
Flower
Use Color A (the color you would like for the flower center) until instructed to fasten off.
Start (Flower Center): Make a Magic Circle.
Round 1 (Flower Center): Ch 2. Make 10 dc into the Magic Circle.
Pull the end of the Magic Circle tight to close.
Sl st into the top of the first dc of the round to join.
(10 dc sts)
Fasten off Color A.
Round 2 (Flower Petals): Do not turn. Attach Color B (the color you would like for the flower petals): insert your hook into the first st. Place Color B on your hook and pull it through the st. Use Color B for all of Round 2.
Ch 3. In the same (first) st, (tr, ch 3, sl st).
*In the next st, (sl st, ch 3, tr, ch 3, sl st).*
Repeat from * to * around.
Sl st into the same st where you attached Color B to join.
(10 tr sts / 10 petals made)

Fasten off Color B, leaving a 10” long ending tail. Except for the 10” ending tail, weave in all other loose ends. Set the flower aside.

Leaf & Stem
Use Color C (the color you would like for the leaf and stem) for the rest of the pattern.
Leaf Start: With Color C, ch 6.
Leaf Row 1: In the second ch from the hook, sc.
Sc in each ch across.
(5 sc sts)
Leaf Row 2: Ch 1 and turn.
In the first st, hdc.
In the next st, dc.
In the next st, hdc.
In the next st, sc.
In the last st, sl st.
Ch 1.
Working into the chs on the other side:
In the first ch, sl st.
In the next ch, sc.
In the next ch, hdc.
In the next ch, dc.
In the last ch, (hdc, ch 1, sl st).
(11 sts – not counting any chs)

Do not fasten off. Next, you will make 36 chs, which creates a “stem” that is approx. 7” long (away from the leaf and measured after making sl sts in each ch). You can adjust the size of the stem by making more or less chains in any number (there is no multiple required).
Stem Start: Ch 36. (These chs are attached to the leaf).
Stem Row 1: In the second ch from the hook, sl st.
Sl st in each ch across.
(35 sl sts)
Sl st into the leaf next to where the chs are attached (work into one loop that’s close to the edge).

Fasten off and weave in all of Color C’s loose ends.
Attach Stem to Flower
Using Color B’s 10” ending tail and your yarn needle, sew the top of the stem to the joining sl st made at the end of Round 2 (Flower Petals).

Weave in the loose end.

And now you have a new flower bookmark!
