Pattern Details
Skill Level
Easy
Size
The pattern creates a coaster that is approx. 5.5” across.
Materials
Yarn: Any size 4 (medium) yarn in two colors. For Color A (the heart and border), you will need approx. 20 yds for each coaster. For Color B (the background), you will need approx. 13 yds for each coaster.

I used Impeccable yarn by Loops & Threads. For Color A (the heart and border), I used the color “Rich Orchid.” (Some pictures show the coasters made with “Misty Blue,” “Green Lagoon,” and “Lavender” for Color A). For Color B (the background), I used “White.” This yarn is size 4 (medium) and 100% acrylic. A skein is 285 yds / 260 m and 4.5 oz / 127.5 g.
Crochet Hook Size: H/8 (5.00 mm).
Other Materials: Yarn needle, scissors and a measuring tape.
Terminology
This pattern is written for right-handed crochet using standard US terminology. If you’re more familiar with UK terms, here’s my US to UK Conversion Chart.

Abbreviations
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- sl st = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- tr = triple/treble crochet
- RS = right side (front)
- WS = wrong side (back)
- BLO = back loops only
Gauge
Exact sizing is not important. For reference, at the end of Round 3, my heart measured approx. 3.25” wide (measured at the widest part) and 2.75” high (measured from the tip of the bottom straight up to the middle of the top).
Pattern Notes
- Chains never count as stitches.
- The slip stitch made at the end of each round that joins the last and first stitches does not count as a stitch and does not get worked into (except during the final round as indicated in the instructions). The slip stitch made in the middle of Rounds 1-3 does get counted as a stitch and is worked into.
- Your work may curl during the first few rounds but will lay flat after the final round (and if necessary, after blocking).
Color Legend
Color A = The heart and border
Color B = The background

Fasten off and weave in all loose ends.
BLOCKING (OPTIONAL)
If necessary, block your coasters.

Blocking can help correct any curling and help shape your work. I blocked my coasters by pinning them on a blocking board with rust-proof pins, spraying them with water and leaving them to dry.

And now you have a new heart coaster!
