Crochet Heart Keychain
Learn how to crochet a heart keychain with this quick and easy Heart Keychain Crochet Pattern and step-by-step video tutorial!

These adorable small crochet hearts are fun to make and are perfect for quick crochet gifts. In about 30 minutes, youโll have a crochet keychain that you can use as a bag charm, stocking stuffer, party favor or a new item to sell at craft shows.
They also make thoughtful handmade gifts for Motherโs Day, Valentineโs Day, birthdays and more.
I really enjoyed making these stuffed crochet hearts. They are seamless, squishy and super cute. It’s very satisfying to be able to start and finish a project in one episode of your favorite show. Plus, they only require about 20 yds of yarn, making them great for using up leftover yarn from your stash.

You can crochet these keychains for kids, friends, family, co-workers, teachers, neighbours – really anyone! They are also wonderful items to sell at craft shows as you can make multiple in a short period of time.
Grab your hook and some yarn and get ready to create a delightful heart keychain that is sure to brighten someone’s day.

Pattern Details

Size
The pattern creates a stuffed heart that is approximately 3โ wide and 2.5โ high.

Materials
Yarn: Any size 4 (medium) yarn. For each heart, you will need approximately 20 yds.
I used Impeccable yarn by Loops & Threads in the colors โCherry,โ โPumpkin,โ โLemon,โ โForest,โ โMisty Blue,โ โPlumโ and โLavender.โ This yarn is size 4 (medium) and 100% acrylic. A skein is 285 yds / 260 m and 4.5 oz / 127.5 g.
Crochet Hook Size: G/7 (4.50 mm).
Other Materials: A stitch marker, polyester stuffing, a keychain ring, a yarn needle, scissors and a measuring tape.
Terminology
This pattern is written for right-handed crochet using standard US terminology. If you’re more familiar with UK terms, hereโs my US to UK Conversion Chart.

Abbreviations
- inv sc2tog = see Special Stitch
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
Gauge
As long as the stitches are tight (so the stuffing doesnโt come through), exact sizing is not important. For reference, after First Heart Top – Round 2, my work measured 1โ across.
Pattern Notes
- The pattern is worked in a continuous spiral without joining rounds with a slip stitch.
- Do not make any chains or turn your work at the beginning or end of any round.
- Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round.
- At the start of a new round, remove the stitch marker, work into the stitch, and then place a stitch marker in that first stitch to mark the start.
- Always work in the first stitch – if the pattern says โin the next stโ and itโs the first stitch of the round, work into that first stitch.

Special Stitch
At the bottom of the heart, you will make decrease stitches using inv sc2tog. Hereโs how to do it:
Invisible Single Crochet Two Together (inv sc2tog): Insert your hook in the front loop only (the loop closest to you) of the next st. Donโt yarn over. Insert your hook into the front loop only of the next st. Yarn over and pull the yarn through both sts (two loops on your hook). Yarn over and pull the yarn through the two loops on your hook. This completed inv sc2tog counts as 1 st.

Pattern Instructions
First Heart Top
Heart Top – Start: Make a Magic Circle.
Heart Top – Round 1:
Make 6 sc into the Magic Circle.
Reminder: Always place a stitch marker in the first st made in the round to mark the start.
Pull the end of the Magic Circle tight to close. (6 sc sts)
Reminders: Never turn. Always work into the first st.
Heart Top – Round 2:
Make 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc sts)
Heart Top – Rounds 3 & 4:
Sc in each st around. (12 sc sts)
For the First Heart Top (only), after completing Heart Top – Round 4:
- Sl st into the first st. Remove stitch marker.
- Fasten off, leaving a 12โ ending tail (meaning to cut the yarn thatโs attached to your skein, leaving a 12โ long tail, pull the tail through the loop that was on your hook and pull tight).
- Weave in the starting tail (but not the ending tail).
- Set the First Heart Top aside.
Second Heart Top
To make the Second Heart Top, follow the instructions from โHeart Top – Startโ to โHeart Top – Round 4.โ
For the Second Heart Top (only), after completing Heart Top – Round 4:
- Do not fasten off and do not make a sl st.
- Remove the stitch marker from the first st.
- Weave in the starting tail.
- Proceed to the Heart Body instructions.

Heart Body
Note: The rounds number continue from the tops so they are easier to count from the top down.
Heart Body – Round 5: Sc in the first st of the First Heart Top (the first st is the same st that you slip stitched into). Place a stitch marker in this first st.
Working in each st of the First Heart Top, sc in the 11 remaining sts.
Next, you will work in each st of the Second Heart Top. When making your first sc st, ensure you work in the first unworked st, not in the last st made on the Second Heart Top.
Working in each st of the Second Heart Top, sc in all 12 sts.
(24 sc sts)

Heart Body – Rounds 6 & 7: Sc in each st around. (24 sc sts)
After completing Heart Body – Round 7, with your yarn needle and the 12″ ending tail from the First Heart Top, sew across the joined area multiple times to close any gaps between the two heart tops. Weave in the tail.
You will now begin the decrease rounds. Use inv sc2tog sts to prevent unwanted holes (see Special Stitch).
Heart Body – Round 8:
*Sc in the next 4 sts. Over the next 2 sts, inv sc2tog.*
Repeat from * to * around.
(20 sts)
Heart Body – Round 9:
*Sc in the next 3 sts. Over the next 2 sts, inv sc2tog.*
Repeat from * to * around.
(16 sts)
Fill your work with stuffing. Every time you stuff, use little pieces of stuffing and do not overstuff. Your work should be full, but the stuffing should not stretch the stitches or be visible through the fabric.
Heart Body – Round 10:
*Sc in the next 2 sts. Over the next 2 sts, inv sc2tog.*
Repeat from * to * around.
(12 sts)
Heart Body – Round 11:
*Sc in the next st. Over the next 2 sts, inv sc2tog.*
Repeat from * to * around.
(8 sts)
Fill with stuffing.
Cut the yarn thatโs attached to your skein, leaving a 12โ tail.
Pull the tail through your last stitch (your work wonโt come undone). Thread the tail onto a yarn needle.
Working in the front loops only (which are the loops closest to you) of the 8 sc sts from the last round:
*Weave the yarn down through the front loop of the next st.
Weave the yarn up through the front loop of the next st.*
Repeat from * to * around.
After working around, pull the tail tight to close the opening.
Weave in the tail.
Attach a keychain ring through two sts on the side of the heart near the top.
I attached my keychain ring to two sts on Heart Top – Round 3.

And now you have a new heart keychain!
