Pattern Details
Skill Level
Easy and beginner-friendly.
Size
The pattern creates a rectangle shawl that is approximately 64” wide and 25” high. Instructions for adjusting the size are included in the pattern.

Materials
Yarn: Any size 3 (light) yarn. You will need approximately 1,375 yds in total.
I used Luxe Merino Wool Blend in the color “Celestial Blue.” This yarn is size 3 (light), 55% superwash merino and 45% acrylic. A skein is 410 yds / 375 m and 5.3 oz / 150 g. I used 4 skeins.
Crochet Hook Size: J/10 (6.00 mm).
Note: This pattern uses a larger hook than what’s recommended on a size 3 yarn label. That’s okay! The larger hook gives the project the right drape and texture.
Other Materials: Two stitch markers, a yarn needle, scissors and a measuring tape.
Terminology
This pattern is written for right-handed crochet using standard US terminology. If you’re more familiar with UK terms, here’s my US to UK Conversion Chart.

Abbreviations
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- ch-2 sp = chain two space
- dc = double crochet
- sc = single crochet
- sk = skip
- sp/sps = space/spaces
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
Gauge
Exact sizing is not important. For reference, 4” x 4” = 12 dc sts and 7 rows following the pattern.
Pattern Notes
- Chains never count as stitches.
- The shawl is completely reversible and looks the same on the front and the back.
- It may take several rows for the width to be what it will be for the rest of the pattern. If after several rows, you are not happy with the width, start again with a different number of starting chains (see How to Adjust the Size).
- The stitch used in this pattern is often called a “V-Stitch” or “Double V-Stitch.”

How to Adjust the Size
The pattern creates a shawl that is approximately 64” wide and 25” high. The average size of a rectangle shawl is 60-70” wide and 25”-30” high.
The number of starting chains determines the width and the number of rows determines the height. To adjust the width, make more or less starting chains in multiples of 4 (any number that you can divide by 4). To adjust the height, repeat Row 3 more or less times and then proceed to the Final Row.

How to Crochet the Lace Shawl (Pattern Instructions)
Start: Ch 200.
Row 1: In the second ch from the hook, sc.
Sc in each ch across.
(199 sc sts).
Note: your work may curl/curve at the start. It will straighten out after several rows.
Row 2: Ch 2 and turn.
In the first st, dc. Place a stitch marker in the top of that first dc.
Sk the next st.
*In the next st, 2 dc.
Ch 2.
In the next st, 2 dc.
Sk the next 2 sts.*
Repeat from * to * across until there is 1 st left.
In the last st, 2 dc.
(199 dc sts).

Note: every time you make 2 chs in between 2 dc sts, you create a “ch-2 sp” that you will work into on the next row. This ch-2 sp is under the two chs and between the 2 dc sts. The starting ch-2 does not create a ch-2 sp.
Row 3: Ch 2 and turn.
In the first st, dc. Place a stitch marker in the top of that first dc.
Until the last st, for the rest of the row, only work into ch-2 sps – not into the tops of sts.
In the first ch-2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc).
*In the next ch-2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc).*
Repeat from * to * across.
In the top of the last st (the st with the stitch marker from the previous row – you can now remove this stitch marker), 2 dc.
(199 dc sts).

Row 4 and on: Repeat Row 3 until the shawl body measures 25” high or until you reach your desired height, then proceed to the instructions for the Final Row (you can repeat Row 3 any number of times and end after any row).
I had a total of 41 rows (which was 25” high) before starting the Final Row.

Final Row: Ch 1 and turn.
In the first st, sc.
In the next st, sc.
*In the next st, sc.
Sk the next st.
In the next ch-2 sp, make 2 sc.
In the next st, sc.
Sk the next st.*
Repeat from * to * across until there is 1 st left.
In the last st (the st with the stitch marker from the previous row – you can now remove the marker), sc.
(199 sc sts).

Fasten off and weave in all loose ends.

And now you have a new shawl!
