Pattern Instructions
Basket Base
The Basket Base is worked in a continuous spiral without joining rounds with a slip stitch. Do not make any chains or turn your work at the beginning or end of any round. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round. At the start of a new round, remove the stitch marker, work into the stitch, and then place a stitch marker in that first stitch to mark the start.
Base Start: Make a Magic Circle.
Base Round 1: Make 6 sc into the Magic Circle.
Reminder: always place a stitch marker in the first st made in the round to mark the start.
Pull the Magic Circle tight to close.
(6 sc sts)
Reminder: for the Basket Base, never turn.
Base Round 2: In the first st, 2 sc.
Make 2 sc in each st around.
(12 sc sts)
Base Round 3: In the first st, 2 sc.
In the next st, sc.
*In the next st, 2 sc. In the next st, sc.*
Repeat from * to * around.
(18 sc sts)
Note: The placement of the 2 sc in the same st (the increases) changes from round to round throughout the pattern. This helps create a more even, rounded shape.
Base Round 4: Sc in the first 2 sts.
In the next st, 2 sc.
*Sc in the next 2 sts. In the next st, 2 sc.*
Repeat from * to * around.
(24 sc sts)
Base Round 5: In the first st, 2 sc.
Sc in the next 3 sts.
*In the next st, 2 sc. Sc in the next 3 sts.*
Repeat from * to * around.
(30 sc sts)
Do not fasten off.

Basket Sides
Sides Round 1: Join: remove the stitch marker from the first st and sl st into that first st to join.
Do not make any chs.
Turn (the WS/back of the base is now facing you).
Sk the first st (this is the joining sl st that never gets worked into or counted as a st).
Next, you will work into the back loops only (BLO), which are the loops furthest away from you.
Sc in the BLO of the next st. Place a stitch marker in this first st.
Sc in the BLO of each st around.
The last st is quite small and difficult to see. Count your sts and ensure you have 30 sc made.
(30 sc sts)
Do not join or fasten off.
Work normally in both loops from now on.
As you work on the sides, you will notice that the WS (the back/bottom) of the base will be facing down and will be on the outside of the basket.
The rest of the Basket Sides (until the Border) are worked in a continuous spiral without joining rounds with a slip stitch. Do not make any chains or turn your work at the beginning or end of any round. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round. At the start of a new round, remove the stitch marker, work into the stitch, and then place a stitch marker in that first stitch to mark the start.
Sides Round 2: In the first st, 2 sc.
Sc in the next 14 sts.
In the next st, 2 sc.
Sc in the last 14 sts.
(32 sc sts)
Sides Round 3: In the first st, sc.

In the next st, 2 sc.
Sc in the last 8 sts.
(34 sc sts)
Sides Round 5: Repeat Sides Round 3.
(34 sc sts)
Sides Round 6: In the first st, 2 sc.
Sc in the next 16 sts.
In the next st, 2 sc.
Sc in the last 16 sts.
(36 sc sts)
Sides Round 7: Repeat Sides Round 3.
(36 sc sts)
Sides Round 8: Sc in the first 8 sts.
In the next st, 2 sc.
Sc in the next 17 sts.
In the next st, 2 sc.
Sc in the last 9 sts.
(38 sc sts)
Sides Round 9: Repeat Sides Round 3.
(38 sc sts)
Do not fasten off.

Basket Border
Border Round 1:
Join: remove the stitch marker from the first st and sl st into that first st to join.
Do not make any chs.
Turn (the WS/inside of the sides are now facing you).
Sk the first st (this is the joining sl st that never gets worked into or counted as a st).
Tip: you may find it helpful to place a stitch marker in the first st made in the round.
*In the next st, sl st. In the next st, hdc.*
Repeat from * to * around.
The last st can be quite small and difficult to see.
Sl st into the first sl st of the round (not the joining sl st) to join.
(19 sl sts + 19 hdc sts = 38 sts not counting the joining sl sts made at the start or end)
Do not fasten off.

Basket Strap
Strap Start: Ch 36. (These chs are attached to the basket).
For Strap Row 1 (only) work into the back ridge loops.

Strap Row 1: In the second ch from the hook, sl st loosely.
Sl st loosely in each ch across.
(35 sl sts)
Strap Row 2: With the WS/inside of the basket facing you, sl st into the next st of basket border (the st to the left of where the chs are attached to the basket).
Do not make any chs.
Turn (the RS/outside of the basket is now facing you).
Sk the sl st made into the basket border.
Working into the sl sts made in Strap Row 1, sl st in each st across. (It’s normal for these sts to be tight).
(35 sl sts not counting the sl st made into the border)
Fasten off, leaving a 12” long tail (meaning to cut the yarn that’s attached to the your skein, leaving a 12” long end. Pull that end/tail through the loop that was on your hook).
With the RS/outside of the basket facing you, count to the right (counterclockwise) from where the strap is already attached. Place a stitch marker in the 18th st of the basket border. There will be 17 sts between the strap and the marked st.
Ensure the strap isn’t twisted. Using your yarn needle and the 12” tail, sew the strap to the 18th and 19th sts of the border, attaching it to the inside of these sts so the yarn does not show on the outside. Once attached, weave in all loose ends.

And now you have a new mini Easter basket!
