Free Christmas Pattern for your Mrs. Paws!

Here’s a very festive dog or cat bandana to make for your Mrs. Paws this holiday season. It’s an easy pattern that comes in two sizes, plus the collar is adjustable so you can make it to fit any size dog or cat. The pattern uses only basic stitches and it works up really quickly.

Make a Matching Santa Bandana

This Mrs. Claus pet bandana pattern was inspired after I saw so many adorable dogs and cats in my Santa / Christmas Dog Bandana.

Materials

Yarn: Any worsted weight (4) yarn for the bandana and holly. Bulky fleece (5) yarn for the collar and border.

  • I used Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn, Solid for the bandana and belt buckle. This yarn is medium (4) weight and 100% acrylic (4.5 oz / 127.5 g and 285 yds. / 260 m).
  • I used the color “Cherry” (approx. 32 yds) for the bandana and berries and “Fern” (approx. 5 yds) for the leaves.
  • For the collar and border, Bernat Pipsqueak (approx. 25 yds) in “Whitey White.” This yarn is bulky (5) weight (3.50 oz. / 100 g and 101 yd / 92 m).

Crochet Hook Size: H/8 (5.00mm) for everything but the holly. For the holly: D/3 (3.25mm).

Other Materials: Yarn needle, scissors, 3 black buttons (for the small size, I used 15 mm buttons and med/lg size, I used 20 mm buttons), black thread and sewing needle.

Abbreviations

ch = chain
st = stitch
sts = stitches
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
RS = right side / front
WS = wrong side / back

Terminology

This Mrs. Claus Bandana Crochet Pattern is written in English for right-handed crochet using standard US crochet terminology. If you’re more familiar with UK terminology, check out my US to UK Conversion Chart.

Mrs. Claus Bandana Pattern Notes:

  • The collar is made separately. The triangle part of the bandana, once completed, is sewn onto the collar.
  • The triangle part of the bandana is worked from the bottom up. It is meant to curve a little and not lay completely flat.
  • Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • Always work in the 1st st (the st attached to the chain).

Please note: This pattern and all images associated with this pattern cannot be copied, shared, altered or sold on your own. You are welcome to sell the finished product but please include a link (if online) and reference jototheworld.com.

Mrs. Claus Dog or Cat Collar Sizing

The ends of the collar tie up around a cat or dog’s neck so the sizing doesn’t need to be exact.

I recommend using size 5, bulky fleece white yarn for the collar and border. But if you don’t have that, I’ve included instructions for using size 4, worsted weight yarn.

If you want to make your collar smaller or larger, subtract or add starting chains + 1 (meaning to add 1 to whatever number of starting chains you want to make).

Assembly (All Sizes)

Attach Collar to Bandana

Place the bandana RS facing up. Place the collar (either side facing up) over the bandana with the tops aligned (the collar will overlap the top of the bandana). Ensure the bandana is centered with equal lengths of collar on either side.

Use a yarn needle and the tail from the border to weave in and out from corner to corner along the top and then back down along the edge of the shells to attach. Fasten off and weave in all loose ends.

Attach Holly

Using the green 24” tail, attach the Holly Leaves onto the dog bandana collar, with the middle on furthest right shell that is attached to the bandana. Weave in and out all the way around each leaf. Weave in all loose ends.

Attach Buttons

Sew on 3 black buttons in the center, evenly apart.
