Christmas Crochet Baby Booties Pattern Details

Skill Level

Size

Finished Santa Booties sizing using worsted weight yarn and an F/5 (3.75mm) hook for everything but the leg (H/8 (5.00mm) hook for the leg):

  • Bootie sole length (from tip of toe to heel): 4.25 inches
  • Width of heel: 2.25 inches
  • Width of ball of foot: 2.75 inches
  • Height of bootie (from bottom of sole to top of leg): 4 inches

These booties should fit a baby between the ages of 3 – 9 months but it’s always best to measure the baby’s foot first.

Materials

Yarn: Any worsted weight (4) for the booties and bulky fleece (5) yarn for the fluffy top.

For the booties, I used Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn, Solid. This yarn is medium (4) weight and 100% acrylic. The size is 4.5 oz / 127.5 g. A skein is 285 yd./260m and you only need less than quarter a skein in total.

I used the color “Black” for the sole and belt; the color “Cherry” for the main part of the bootie and leg; and the color “Sunny Day” for the belt buckle.

For the fluffy top of the booties, I used Bernat Pipsqueak. This yarn is bulky (5) weight. The size is 3.50 oz. / 100 g. A skein is 101 yd / 92 m. You only need a few yards. The exact color is called “Whitey White.”

Crochet Hook: Size F/5 3.75 mm for everything but the leg. H/8 5.00mm for the leg.

Other: Stitch Marker, Yarn Needle, Scissors, Pins

Abbreviations

st = stitch
sts = stitches
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
sc2tog = single crochet two together
hdc2tog = half double crochet two together

Christmas Booties Pattern Notes:

  • The booties are made from the sole up.
  • They are worked in the round. Do not turn your work at the end of each round (with the exception of Row 4, which is explained in the written instructions).
  • Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • Always start in the same st as the chain.
  • Repeat instructions such as [2 hdc in next 2 st, hdc] x 3 means to repeat for a total of 3 times. In this example the stitches would look like this: 2hdc, 2hdc, hdc, 2hdc, 2hdc, hdc, 2hdc, 2hdc, hdc.

Christmas Crochet Booties Instructions

Christmas Booties Soles

Chain: With black yarn and a F/5 (3.75 mm) crochet hook: ch 8.

Note: Rows 1-3 are worked in continuous rounds without joining.

Row 1: In the 2nd ch from hook, 2 hdc in the same chain (Place Marker (PM) in first hdc), hdc in next 5 chains, 6 hdc in last chain. Working along the other side, hdc in next 5 ch, 2 hdc in last st – do not join (20)

Row 2: 2 sc in next st (PM in first sc), 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 3 st, [2 dc in next st] x 6, hdc in next 3 st, sc in next 2 st, [2 sc in next st] x 2 – do not join (30)

Row 3: hdc (PM), hdc, [2 hdc in next st] x 3, hdc in next 5 st, [2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st] x 6, hdc in next 5 st, [2 hdc in next st] x 3 – do not join (42 sts made). sl st into the next st.

Note: The right side of the sole will be facing up and will be inside your bootie. The wrong side of the sole will be facing down and will be on the outside of your bootie.

Christmas BOOTIES SIDES

Row 4: Change color: attach red yarn with a sl st. Fasten off black yarn, leaving a tail to weave in ends.

With red yarn, ch 1 and turn (you’ll be crocheting in the opposite direction and your first st will be into the last st you made, which is the sl st from Row 3).

Working in back loops only (which are the ones furthest away from you), sc into the back loop of the st attached to the ch 1. sc in the back loops only in each st around (42 sc). sl st into both loops of 1st sc to join.

Booties Steps 1 - 4
The colors in this picture are different than pattern to make it easier to see.

***Note: Work in both loops from now on.***

Row 5: Ch 1, working in both loops, sc in next 11 sts, [hdc2tog, hdc in next 4 sts] x 3, hdc2tog, sc in next 11 sts, sl st in 1st sc to join (38)

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in next 10 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, [hdc2tog, hdc2tog, hdc] x 3, hdc, sc in next 10 sts, sl st in 1st sc to join (32)

I recommend weaving in your current loose ends so that you don’t have to turn the bootie fully inside out later.

Row 7: Ch 1, sc in next 11 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, [hdc2tog, hdc in next 2 sts] x 2, sc in next 11 sts, sl st in 1st sc to join (30)

With F/5 (3.75mm) hook and golden yellow yarn, ch 14.

1st Rectangle Side (short): In 2nd ch from hook, sl st into back ridge loop. (Interweave has a great diagram of where the back ridge loop is here). In next ch, sl st into back ridge loop. In next ch, sl st x 3 into same back ridge loop.

2nd Rectangle Side (long): sl st into next 3 back ridge loops. In next ch, sl st x 3 into same back ridge loop.

3rd Rectangle Side (short): sl st into next 2 back ridge loops. In next ch, sl st x 3 into same back ridge loop.

Fasten off leaving a 12″ tail. Weave in the first end to belt buckle. Using a yarn needle, attach belt buckle to bootie on the front center of bootie with the rows of black in the middle.

And that’s it! Make another and you’ll have two adorable Santa booties.
