Pattern Details
Skill Level
This is an easy crochet hat pattern.
Size
The pattern creates a hat that is 11” wide and 8” high. It is designed to fit a woman’s head that is approximately 22” around.

Materials
Yarn: Any size 6 (super bulky) yarn.* You will need approximately 95 yds in total.
*Please keep in mind that super bulky yarns can vary significantly between brands and colors (some are much thicker or thinner than others). Because of this, your work may measure quite differently than mine. Refer to the “How to Adjust the Size” section if your work is measuring differently.
I used Bernat Blanket yarn in the colors: “Smokey Green,” “Shadow Purple,” and “Vapor Grey.” This yarn is size 6 (super bulky) and 100% polyester. A skein is 220 yds / 201 m and 10.5 oz / 300 g.
Crochet Hook Size: K/10.5 (6.50 mm).
Other Materials: Yarn needle, scissors and a measuring tape. Optional: a stitch marker.
Terminology
This pattern is written for right-handed crochet using standard US terminology. If you’re more familiar with UK terms, here’s my US to UK Conversion Chart.
Abbreviations
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- hdc = half double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- sk = skip
- st/sts = stitch/stitches

Gauge
After Round 2, your work should measure 3” across. Measurements are provided throughout the pattern. If at any point your work is measuring differently, start again with a different hook size or refer to the “How to Adjust the Size” section.
How to Adjust the Size
To adjust the width of the hat, make more or less stitches in Round 6. Ensure that the total number of stitches at the end of Round 6 is an even number. After Round 6, follow the pattern as written – you will just have a different stitch count (the same as Round 6).
Round 6 – Example A (smaller – 52 sts, 0.75” less):
In the first st, 2 hdc. Hdc in the next 24 sts. Make 2 hdc in the next st. Hdc in the last 24 sts.
Round 6 – Example B (larger – 56 sts, 0.75” more):
In the first st, 2 hdc. Hdc in the next 11 sts. *2 hdc in the next st. Hdc in the next 10 sts.* Repeat from * to * around.
To adjust the height, repeat Round 7 more or less times. After reaching your desired height, proceed to the Final Round.

Pattern Notes
- Chains never count as stitches.
- Always work into the first stitch (the stitch attached to the chain).
- The joining slip stitch never counts as a stitch or gets worked into.
- You may find it helpful to place a stitch marker in the top of the first stitch made in every round.
