Crochet Coaster Holder
Need a place to store your coasters? You’ll love this quick Crochet Coaster Holder that is easy to make and looks beautiful when complete.
This Crochet Coaster Holder is designed to hold round crochet coasters that are less than 5″ across such as the coasters made in my Round Crochet Coaster Pattern, which are pictured with the coaster holder.

The pattern includes instructions for making the bottom of the holder bigger if you want to adjust the size.
I really love the look of this holder (and how fast and simple it was to make!) and will be making more of them in different sizes and colors to use as baskets throughout the house.
Coaster Holder Crochet Pattern
This Coaster Holder Crochet Pattern uses two strands of yarn held together for the entire time. Using two strands creates a holder/basket that is thick and sturdy. If you have never worked with two strands of yarn held together before, don’t be intimidated. You simply hold both strands at the same time, treat them as one and crochet normally. It’s okay for them to twist – that’s what creates a dense fabric, perfect for a coaster holder.

The bottom of the coaster holder is made with half double crochet stitches and the sides are made by alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches. It’s a very simple pattern with stunning results.

Yarn: This pattern is worked with two strands of yarn held together for the entire pattern so you can either separate your yarn manually or use multiple skeins. You will need approx. 100 yds / 44 g in total (50 yds / 22 g and 50 yds / 22 g when separated) of any size 4 (medium) yarn.

Crochet Hook Size: K/10.5 (6.50 mm)
Other Materials: yarn needle, scissors and a measuring tape.

Pattern Notes
- Use two strands of yarn held together for the entire pattern, treating them as one strand and crocheting normally.
- Always work into the first stitch (the stitch attached to the chain) unless instructed otherwise. If the instructions say to work into the next st and it’s the first stitch of the round, work into the first stitch (the stitch attached to the chain).
- Chains never count as stitches.

Coaster Holder Crochet Pattern Instructions
Coaster Holder Bottom
Start: With two strands of yarn held together, make a Magic Circle. Use two strands of yarn held together for the entire pattern.
Round 1: Ch 1. In the Magic Circle, make 10 hdc. Pull end of Magic Circle tight to close. (10 sts made. Reminder: chains never count as sts). Sl st into the top of the first hdc to join.
Round 2: Ch 1. Do not turn. (Reminder: always work in the first stitch unless instructed otherwise). Make 2 hdc in each st around. (20 sts). Sl st into the top of the first hdc to join.
Round 3: Ch 1. Do not turn. *In the next st, 2 hdc. In the next st, hdc.* Repeat from * to * around. (30 sts). Sl st into the top of the first hdc to join.
After Round 3, work should measure 3.75”.
Round 4: Ch 1. Do not turn. *In the next st, 2 hdc. Hdc in the next 2 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. (40 sts). Sl st into the top of the first hdc to join.
After Round 4, work should measure 5” across.
Do not fasten off. The round numbers will now reset to make it easier to count rounds from the bottom up.
Note: The right side (the top) of the bottom you just completed will continue to face up.

Making the Coaster Holder Bigger
If you want to make the bottom of the coaster holder bigger, you can continue making rounds. Always ch 1 and do not turn. Repeat the instructions below from * to * around. Sl st into the top of the first hdc to join.
- *In the next st, 2 hdc. Hdc in the next 3 sts.* (50 sts)
- *In the next st, 2 hdc. Hdc in the next 4 sts.* (60 sts)
- *In the next st, 2 hdc. Hdc in the next 5 sts.* (70 sts)
When you have reached your desired size, proceed to the instructions for the sides. The sides will have the same number of stitches as your final round of the bottom. (Note that if you make the holder bigger, you will require more yarn).
Coaster Holder Sides
Round 1: Ch 1. Do not turn. *In the next st, sc in the FLO (the FLO are the loops closest to you). In the next st, dc in the FLO.* Repeat from * to * around. (40 sts). Sl st into both loops of the top of the first sc to join.
For the rest of the pattern, you will now turn at the start of each round. Your first stitch is the top of the last dc you completed (not the sl st that is attached to the chain).

Round 2: Ch 1 and turn. In the first st (the top of the dc from the previous round), sc. In the next st (the top of the sc from the previous round), dc. *In the next st, sc. In the next st, dc.* Repeat from * to * around. (40 sts). Sl st into the top of the first sc to join.
Rounds 3 & 4: Repeat Round 2.
After completing Round 4, fasten off and weave in loose ends.
Or, you can continue repeating Round 2 until you reach your desired height.

And now you have a new coaster holder!
