About This Pattern
- It’s a great Christmas crochet gift idea for beginners as the pattern only uses simple stitches…if you know how to single crochet, double crochet, chain and slip stitch you can make this Santa Wine Glass Holder!
- It works up quickly (you can complete this pattern before the end of your favorite Christmas movie!) and uses only a small amount of yarn (way less than a quarter of a skein in total).
- Designed to fit a standard wine glass (with a circumference of approx. 11″). I tested it on every wine glass I could find ranging from narrow to wide and it fit on every size.
- This Santa Wine Glass Lanyard Crochet Pattern is written in English for right-handed crochet using standard US crochet terminology. If you’re more familiar with UK terminology, check out my US to UK Conversion Chart.
Finished Santa Wine Glass Lanyard sizing using the yarn listed below and a H/8 (5.00mm) hook creates a wine glass holder that has a circumference of 11″ (at the widest part), which fits a standard wine glass and is 3.5″ tall. The strap is approximately 33″ (when not stretched).
Yarn: Any worsted weight (4) for the wine glass holder and bulky fleece (5) yarn for the fluffy top.
I used Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn, Solid. This yarn is medium (4) weight and 100% acrylic. The size is 4.5 oz / 127.5 g. A skein is 285 yd./260m and you only need way less than a quarter skein in total.
I used the color “Cherry for the main part of the wine glass lanyard; the color “Black” for the belt; and the color “Sunny Day” for the belt buckle.
For the fluffy top of the wine glass holder, I used Bernat Pipsqueak. This yarn is bulky (5) weight. The size is 3.50 oz. / 100 g. A skein is 101 yd / 92 m. You only need a few yards. The exact color is called “Whitey White.”
Crochet Hook Size: H/8 (5.00mm) for everything but the belt buckle. For the belt buckle: F/5 (3.75mm).
Other: Yarn Needle, Scissors
st = stitch
sts = stitches

- This Santa Wine Glass Lanyard Crochet Pattern is made from the bottom up.
- It is worked in the round. Do not turn your work at the end of each round.
- Chains do not count as a stitch.
- Always start in the same stitch as the chain.
- Join each round with a slip stitch into the top of the 1st stitch made (not the chain).

Round 4: Change color: attach red yarn with a sl st. Fasten off black yarn and leave a tail to weave in loose ends.

Fasten off and weave in all loose ends.
With F/5 (3.75mm) hook and golden yellow colored yarn, ch 18.
1st Rectangle Side (short): In 2nd ch from hook, sl st into back ridge loop. (Interweave has a great diagram of where the back ridge loop is here). In next 2 chains, sl st into back ridge loop. In next ch, sl st x 3 into same back ridge loop.
2nd Rectangle Side (long): sl st into next 4 back ridge loops. In next ch, sl st x 3 into same back ridge loop.

4th Rectangle Side (long): sl st into next 4 back ridge loops. sl st into 1st sl st to join.
Fasten off leaving a 12″ tail. Weave in the first end to belt buckle. Using a yarn needle, attach belt buckle to wine glass lanyard on the front center with the rows of black in the middle.
With red yarn, ch 91.
Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook, sc. sc in each st across (90 sc). ch 1 and turn.
Row 2: sc in each st across (90 sc). Fasten off.
With your yarn needle and red yarn, attach ends of straps to the wine glass lanyard underneath the row of fluffy white yarn. Ensure that your belt buckle is directly in the center and the straps ends are on each side.
And that’s it! Your wine glass lanyard is ready to bring holiday Cheers!
